High Jackson Ground Barns

Broughton Mills, Broughton in Furness, LA20 6BB

(note that in Google maps the postcode will indicate Carter Ground, a mile down the valley)

Higher Jackson Ground Barns are ideally situated for those who like outdoor life, but with comfortable accommodation. There is a wide range of things you can do:

  • ·         Sit and read and watch the sheep and lambs in the adjacent fields, along with distant views of fells and the Duddon Estuary;
  • ·         Go through the back gate and you are immediately on the fells where you can wander freely, discover disused mines or ride a mountain bike along ancient tracks;
  • ·         Walk further on the fells – it is only 6 miles to the top of Coniston Old Man;
  • ·         Ride a bike 10 miles up the Duddon valley takes you to Cockley Beck, the foot of the fierce Hard Knott and Wrynose cycle climbs;
  • ·         It is 10 miles to the beautiful Coniston Water of ‘Swallows and Amazon’ or 12 miles to the gently shelving shingle beach at Silecroft.
  • ·         And of course the wealth of other Lake District attractions
