Applied Genomics

The LINK programme in Applied Genomics was jointly funded by the DTI, the MRC and the BBSRC. The overall objective of this programme is to encourage research collaborations between industry and academia which will use genome sequence and genetic data to identify new functionalities in biological systems that are capable of exploitation in the healthcare industries.

In November 2002, the DTI launched the Beacon Projects as part of the DTI Harnessing Genomics Programme. These are a group of leading-edge, world-class projects in areas of bioscience with real potential to have a major impact on industry's productivity and competitiveness. The projects are highly innovative and are, by their nature, high-risk. However, the potential rewards are correspondingly great.
