National
Girls’ Schools Championships,
Hampton, Middlesex: 12
May 2002
For the first time we entered
a team in a national tournament - for teams of 4 girls. Our young Under
9 team finished 7th with 6.5 points out of 16. Since all members of this
team will be able to play in the same age group next year we will aim
to get amongst the prizes winners. Our under 11 team, whilst older was
less experienced, and finished 9th with 3.5/16. With a bit more luck (and
experience) both teams would have gained a few more points from games
which they were winning but eventually drew or lost.
The best performances
were supplied by the two captains - Becky O'Neill scoring 2.5/4
on board 1 for the U11s, and Felicia Lui 3/4 on board 1 for the
U9s. Everyone enjoyed themselves, even if some girls did not win any games.
