Sunday 9th May 2005 National Girls Team Championships in New Malden
Whyteleafe school come 1st equal school, (and 3rd= team) in the national girls Under 11 team tournament. 3 Castle's members were the top 3 boards for the team : Charlotte West (3.5/5), Ruth Cooper (3.5/5) and Bethany Nicholls (2/5)
The less experienced Castles under 9 team scored just over 50% and came 6th=, a very creditable result. The team comprised: Mary Fothergill (2/5), Emily Galvin (4/5), Ciara Mockett (2/5), Rachel Galvin (0/2) and Lucia Keijer (2.5/3).

Castles members Charlotte West and Ruth Cooper were members of the Wey Valley team which won the national girls inter-area tournament. Both won all 3 of their games.

Saturday 16th October 2004 Warlingham Chess Festival
Castles members won 5 of the 6 sections, with Emily Galvin winning all 5 games in the Under 9 Novice, Keiran Rigg winning the Older Novice, Daniel Hubbard the Under 9 Section, Joshua Caulcott Cooper the Secondary Section and helper Richard Mascall the open (adult) section. Saturday 17th July 2004 Caterham Schools event
In this local tournament the majority of winners, and leading players, were again from Castles. Winners from Castles were: Seb Lumb (Under 14), George West(under 11), Ruth Cooper (Under 9), Nathan Neal (Under 8), Philip Knott (Under 7).
UK Chess Challenge 2004
Of the record number of 30 members who qualified for the Surrey Megafinal, ten qualified for the national Gigafinal. In the end 5 made the long journey to Manchester , their scores being: Seb Lumb and Aaron Adekoya 4/6 Philip Knott 3.5/6 Nathan Heal 3/6 and Oliver Adekoya 2/6. In view of the strength of the competition at the Gigafinal these were all good scores.
Monday/Tuesday June 28/29th
Whyteleafe School Under 9 team come 7th in the EPSCA national finals at Hemsby. The team is made up of 6 Castles' members: Charlotte West, Ruth Cooper, Nathan Neal, Bethany Nicholls Philip Knott and Dan Hubbard

Jason Ying scored 3/5 in the U8s Saturday 12th June Surrey Hundreds
Daniel Hubbard scored 4/5 in the U8s and was Tandridge Champion, Aaron Adekoya scored 4/5 in the U7, Philip Knott 3.5/5 in the U7 and Oliver Adekoya 2.5/5 in the U9s.

Thus 20 Castles members played at the megafinal and 12 have qualified for the National Gigafinal in July, beating the number who qualified last year.

2004 Emmanuel Chess Festival
Leading Castles results were achieved by George West, Joshua Cooper
and Nathan Heal who were 2nd= in the primary section with 4/5
(13 points), Ruth Cooper and 6 year old Philip Knott 3.5/5
(12 points) in the same section. James West score 4/5 (13
points) in the novice section whilst James Sullivan and Seb Lumb
scored 3.5/5 (12 points) in the secondary section. For full results click

18th January 2004 Wey Valley U12 Championships
Joshua Cooper
and George West both scored 3/5 in the tough under 12 section,
and both have been invited to play for the Wey Valley (Surrey) under 11
(mixed) team. Charlotte West scored 2.5/6 in the Under 9 section
and has been invited to play for the Under 11 girls team. Seb Lumb
scored 2/5 in the Under 12 section, having lost to George in the last
round.
